App
M-events

The M-Events application is designed for musicians and event organizers to make themselves known and facilitate contact between both parties.

Project developed for the Google UX Design certificate.

Made in the FIGMA program

The intention with this project was to demonstrate the handling in FIGMA as well as to develop the whole development process from research to the final prototype.

The problem

Many musicians seek to make a living through their music, and to do so they turn to live events. But it is a very difficult world without contacts, and this app seeks to solve that problem, as well as help event organizers in the search for musicians.

The objective

Create an app that serves as a catalog of musicians
musicians so that they can make themselves known regardless of their contacts in the world of events.

01

Understanding the user

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I serve and their needs. One of the main user groups was musicians who are not so well known and do not find a way to make themselves known at events.
This group showed the importance of creating this catalog of musicians, since it not only gives the opportunity to very talented artists, but also opens the door for event organizers to locate musicians with the specific characteristics that the event needs, making it very more personalized for your client.

02

Initial designs

Spending time drafting iterations of each screen of the paper application ensured that the elements that were incorporated into the digital schematics were adequate to address users' pain points. For the home screen, I prioritized a quick and easy ordering process that would help users save time.

As the initial design phase progressed, I made sure to base the screen designs on feedback and findings from user research.

Communication was one of the main user needs that needed to be addressed in the designs, in addition to equipping the application to work with assistive technologies.

From the digital wireframes I created a low-fidelity prototype. The main user flow I connected was searching, choosing and contacting the musician, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.

03

Refining the design

In the first designs, purple was used excessively, trying to give gradient and darker tones to focus the eyes on the images and text, which is the most important thing.

Navigation was the point that was tweaked the most, making it more intuitive and easier to use, with more striking controls and more organic transitions.

The final high-fidelity prototype featured cleaner user flows for searching for a musician and getting in touch. It also met users' needs for categories and profile customization.

Conclusions

Impact

The app makes users feel like M-Events really thinks about how to meet their needs. A quote from user comments:
"The app makes it very easy and fun to search for musicians. I would definitely use this app as a resource to facilitate work on upcoming events."

The learned

While designing the M-Events app, I learned that the first app ideas are just the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each iteration of the app designs.
